You’re Smart to Build in the Right NJ Location—But Will Your Home Be Smart, Too?

HGTV-Smart-Home-484526-edited.jpegIf you’ve done some research before deciding where to build your New Jersey home, you know that location really does matter. There’s a good chance that you’ve already discovered that both
Hillsborough and Montgomery Township are great choices for good neighborhoods, quality homes, and award-winning schools

So you’re being smart about where to build your home—but will the home you’re building be smart as well? These days, your home can do things that nobody would have dreamed of even 25 years ago. Homeowners today are able to monitor and adjust everything from heating and cooling to lighting and shades from anywhere inside their homes—and even from outside the home via smart phones and tablets. There are even devices such as Nest thermostats and smoke detectors that are not only programmable, but are also “self-learning”—that is they learn what you want in your home and adjust to your desires without you having to lift a finger. Devices such as Eero or Google Wifi provide whole home coverage, lightning fast speeds, and convenient app control. These features are great for anyone from an entrepreneur working on their next web based business idea to a family binge watching a show on Netflix.

That can really add a level of comfort and convenience to your home. And it can also save energy and money. If you know the house will be empty, you can lower the level of air conditioning in the summer or reduce the heat in the winter—and then bring the house back to a comfortable temperature before people come home. That’s pretty smart.

You can do that now, but what does the future hold? More and more devices are being created for the smart home. Manufacturers are creating refrigerators, washing machines, window coverings, entertainment systems, and security systems that can all be programmed and accessed remotely. There’s no doubt about it: Homes are getting smarter all the time.

There’s a bit of a catch, however. Not all of the devices and systems work together. And you wonder how smart it is to have to have a different application on your smart phone or tablet for every different function in your house. There are some larger companies that are pretty innovative when it comes to whole-house control. And while some of these systems can be a little pricey, they ensure that you can control everything you want from one central location.

The fact of the matter is that the smart home market is still evolving—and things are happening quickly. We’ll try to keep our eyes open for new developments that are really smart—and pass what we find on to you.

Choosing a quality home in a great community in Central New Jersey is smart. We’d be delighted to work with you to build the most comfortable, best quality, and smartest home in the area.
