8 Reasons to Build a New Home Instead of Buying a Previously Owned House

When you’re considering purchasing a home in the New Jersey area, one of the decisions you face is whether to build a new home or purchase an existing home. Like so many choices you face when making this kind of purchase, one size doesn’t fit all.

For some families, the convenience of a ready-built home and the comfort of an existing neighborhood are compelling reasons to buy an existing property. There are, however, advantages to building your home from the ground up. Let’s look at a few.

Adding personal touches

Most of us want to put our own personal touches on our home. When you build a new home, it’s much easier to do that. This doesn’t just apply to color schemes on the intetior or exterior. With a new build you can often have a say in the layout and features that are built into your new home.

You don’t have to be a handyman

Some people are really good with a hammer, saw, and paint brush. Others would rather not tackle home improvement projects. With new construction the work is done for you. And if you’re not particularly handy—it will look a lot better than if your tried it yourself!

New homes are designed for life today

Some older homes are designed around the way life used to be lived. There’s nothing wrong with formal living rooms and dining rooms, but if you have your heart set on open design, eat-in kitchens, walk-in closets, or a large master bath, you may not find what you’re looking for in an existing home.

More living and less maintenance

There is a distinct advantage to having brand new appliances, plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning. You also won’t have to paint or worry about the roof for a while. You can enjoy living in your home instead of working on it.

Energy efficiency

Well built new homes take advantage of advances in construction materials that allow for higher energy efficiency. In addition to being easier on the environment, that means lower utility bills.

New homes mean newer technology

In new homes it’s easier to build in the latest technologies such as alarm systems, music systems, Internet wiring, and cable. On top of that, your appliances in the kitchen (range, oven, refrigerator, etc.) will be the latest technology which means they do more and they do it more efficiently.

New homes can be healtier

New homes often have fewer health issues (asbestos, lead paint, old carpet, mold, etc.). Even the heating, and air conditioning systems are new—so there’s no build-up of dirt and dust.

New homes are just—NEW

A lot of homeowners simply enjoy the pleasure of being in a home that nobody has ever lived in before. Things aren’t worn or dirty or used. It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure that you can enjoy.

Not everyone appreciates the benefits of a new home. But if the features above appeal to you—whether you’re looking for a spacious single family home in Hillsborough, or Montgomery County, or a luxury townhome just across the New Jersey border in Pennsylvania—you can find a great home that offers you all the advantages of new home living that you’ll love.
