Building a new home is not a short-term investment. Chances are, you plan to stay in the area for a while. And while you may give a lot of attention to the details of your home—what about the neighborhood you’re planning to live in? The community you live in has a huge impact on your quality of life. What will the neighborhood be like a few years down the road?

Here are a few signs that your neighborhood will mature well and still be a great place to live even after you’ve been there a while.

Safety and Security

Naturally you want to live in a community that feels safe and secure. The national home security website Safewise, compiled a list of New Jersey's 50 safest communities, and Hillsborough was listed as number 19! You can check out the story on the Hillsborough Patch here

Neighborhood Maintenance

Newly built homes look great. But if you want to get a sense for how things are going to look in a few years, check out some homes that have been in the area for a while. It doesn’t take long to see if your potential neighbors care about their property.  Look for more than just a fresh coat of paint. What does the landscaping look like? Is there an obvious sense of pride in the way the whole neighborhood looks?

Social Opportunities

This could be anything from kid’s sports events to concerts and other community activities. It doesn’t mean you have to participate in every event—but are there opportunities to interact with other when you want to? Can you get a sense of a neighborhood identity?

The Real Estate Market

This can be a bit tricky when the real estate market fluctuates a lot. But you may be able to pick up on whether or not the area is still desirable. If homes are vacant for a long time it may be an indication that people are looking elsewhere.

The General Feel

Sometimes we rely on rather subjective means for evaluating a neighborhood. Does the neighborhood you’re looking at feel comfortable? Do you get a sense of permanence and wellbeing when you walk or drive through the area?

Of course a major factor in the quality of the community lies in the quality of the homes being built there. Country Classics at Hillsborough and Fox Brook at Montgomery both offer incredible quality and value in highly desirable New Jersey communities. We invite you to check out the great floor plans available at both of these great New Jersey Communities.
