Take a look at any list of the best places to live in New Jersey, and you’ll find Montgomery Township near the top. The Township receives high scores year after year, thanks in part to its convenient location and the abundant selection of both existing and new homes. Although it’s impossible to list all of the factors that make Montgomery Township stand out, here are three you’ll want to keep in mind if you’re planning to make a move this year.

Montgomery Township is Family Friendly

New Jersey Family’s listing of the Best New Jersey Towns for Families ranks Montgomery Township second in New Jersey and first in Somerset County. The publication considered a variety of factors, including affordability, average commute time and safety, when compiling the rankings.

No matter what the season, you’ll find plenty to do when you live in Montgomery Township, whether you’re attending a neighborhood potluck or a more formal event. The highlight of the summer season is the annual Independance Day Celebration. Held at Montgomery County High School, the event features food, musical performances and a spectacular fireworks display.

A few months later, the high school parking lot is overrun with ghosts, goblins and vampires during the Township’s popular trunk or treat Halloween event. A turkey trot in November and a holiday sing-a-long  and tree lighting ceremony in December round out the list of holiday activities.

Many municipalities offer programs for kids, but completely forget about the adults. In addition to the usual after-school classes and summer camps for children, the Township also offers a popular community school for the adult members of the community. Offerings included classes in piano, languages, yoga, swimming, fencing and ballroom dance.

The Schools Are Exceptional

Montgomery Township schools consistently receive high ratings in national rankings. Niche.com’s 2018 list of best schools in the country ranked the Montgomery Township School District eighth out of 238 districts, while U.S. News & World Report ranked the high school 25th in the state and 493rd in the country.

The school district serves more than 7,000 students in five schools located in Skillman. Students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports teams, clubs and science and math competitions. An impressive 90 percent of Montgomery Township high school graduates further their educations at four-year colleges and universities.

Everything is Close By

Living in a suburb often requires long drives to get almost anywhere you need to go. That’s not the case in Montgomery Township. Due to its convenient Central New Jersey location, you’ll never have to travel far to get to work, stores or local parks.

Routes 206, 78, 287 and 95 provide convenient access to New York, Philadelphia and towns in between. New Jersey Transit’s Princeton Junction Station, located just 15 minutes from Montgomery Township, offers another option for residents who prefer taking the train to work.

Although grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores, medical offices and other services are conveniently located, the Township still retains an almost rural atmosphere. Thanks to large lot sizes, tree-lined streets and a commitment to preserving open spaces, Montgomery Township never feels overrun by asphalt and concrete.

Real Estate Offers an Excellent Return on Investment

Home prices and values are perhaps the most reliable indicators of the health of a community. Although decreasing prices and values have been a concern in some parts of New Jersey during the past several years, Montgomery Township real estate is booming. Home values have changed just .1 percent over the past year and are expected to rise 1 percent during 2018, according to Zillow.com.

Recreational Opportunities Are Plentiful

Montgomery Township provides multiple parks for the enjoyment of residents. The Township recently turned the grounds of an old hospital into a new public park. Skillman Park, which opened in 2015 on the site of the former New Jersey State Village for Epileptics, features a looped walking trail and scenic overlooks. Other parks in the Township offer playgrounds, sports fields, picnic areas, tennis courts and miles of trails for hiking and biking.

If you prefer hitting the links to hiking through the woods, you may want to visit the three golf clubs located close to Montgomery Township. The Stonybrook Golf Club, Bedens Brook Country Club and Cherry Valley Country Club offer challenging courses designed by the premier course designers. Bedens Brook and Cherry Valley also offer tennis and swimming.
