Looking for something to do on the weekend or your day off? When you live in Frenchtown, the day trip opportunities are nearly endless. One of these trip ideas may be an excellent option the next time you’re ready to hit the road.

Shop the Flemington Outlets

If shopping is your favorite day trip activity, you’ll want to pay a visit to the Liberty Village Outlets in Flemington. You’re sure to find an excellent deal at Calvin Klein, American Eagle Outfitters, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen or one of the other outlet stores.

After a busy morning of shopping, head over to Blue Fish Grill, Dolce, Viva Mexico, Platform One or Lone Eagle Brewing for a snack or meal. In the afternoon, hop on a replica steam train at the Black River & Western Railroad for a scenic tour of the area.

Ride the Slides at a Pocono Waterpark

Going to a waterpark is an ideal destination for a day trip, especially on a hot day. Luckily, when you live in Frenchtown, you’re just about an hour away from several waterparks in the Pocono mountains.

During the summer months, the base of Camelback Resort’s ski area becomes the Camelbeach waterpark. The park offers plenty of opportunities to get wet, including a large wave pool and slides that range from mild to wild. If you prefer a more laidback day, take a trip on the lazy river or enjoy the activity pool. Camelbeach doesn’t forget about the kids. They have their own gigantic play area, complete with tipping buckets, fountains and kid-sized slides.

Do you prefer a shadier location? The Poconos also offers indoor waterparks. Buy a day pass and enjoy the slides, pools and amenities at Aquatopia, Great Wolf Lodge, Kalahari Resort or Split Rock Resort.

Go for a Hike at Bulls Island Recreation Area

Why not get your steps in and enjoy nature at the same time with a visit to Bulls Island Recreation Area? Located in Stockton between the Delaware River and the Delaware and Raritan Canal, the park offers hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Walking paths meander through shady silver maple, tulip poplar, and sycamore trees.

Once you’ve finished exploring Bulls Island, cross the pedestrian bridge and continue walking on the Delaware Canal Towpath trail. Before you hit the trail on the Pennsylvania side of the river, stop by the Black Bass Hotel for lunch or dinner. The hotel’s lunch menu includes an asparagus and potato tart, seared sea scallops, barbecue beef brisket sandwich, seared chicken breast, and many other tasty choices.

Spend the Day at Trenton Museums

An air-conditioned museum must is the perfect place to escape the heat and catch up on the past. The Trenton area has several museums that explore New Jersey’s rich history, including:

  • Trenton City Museum: Located in the Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park, the Trenton City Museum explores the roots of the capital city and offers a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits.
  • Old Barracks Museum: The Old Barracks once served as home to 300 colonial-era soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War. Today, the museum houses 2000 artifacts ranging from postcards, fine art, and military objects from the colonial period.
  • William Trent House Museum: William Trent’s impressive home is the site of a museum dedicated to life in the colonial period. You’ll learn about the residents of the home and life in the 1700s during your tour of the house and gardens.
