Finding things to do is never a problem if you live in Somerset, NJ. The area is home to beautiful parks, challenging golf courses, lively theater presentations and other activities that will keep you busy year-round. Here are just a few activities you can enjoy if you become a Somerset resident.

Colonial Park

Located just about a mile from Somerset, Colonial Park is the ideal place to decompress and enjoy nature. The 685-acre park borders the Millstone River and the Delaware and Raritan Canal and offers picnicking, sports fields, a playground, an off-leash dog park, fishing, hiking trails, horticultural displays ice skating, cross country skiing and a water spray park for children.

A variety of programs are offered throughout the year, including the annual Rose Day festival in June, guided tours of the Rudolf W. van der Groot Rose Garden, and classes on smartphone photography and forest bathing.

Spooky Brook and Quail Brook Golf Courses

The par 72 Spooky Brook Golf Course, located in Colonial Park, features large greens and picturesque holes. Thanks to its flat terrain, the course is easy to walk, although gas cart rentals are available. The course also offers a driving range, practice green and golf merchandise.

Also a par 72 course, Quail Brook Golf course has hosted NJSGA amateur events and qualifiers, in addition to high school golf championships. Designed by Edmund Ault, the tree-lined course traverses small hills and well-bunkered greens. Facilities include a practice range, putting green and practice sand bunker.

Amazing Escape Room

Test your puzzle-solving ability with a visit to the Amazing Escape Room, located in nearby Green Brook. The facility offers themed rooms, all designed to challenge your ability to think under pressure and solve challenging puzzles before you run out of time.

Choose from The Wizard’s Apprentice, The Bank Heist, The Pirate Ship, The Illusionist or Murder She Wrote themed rooms. After entering the room, you’ll have 60 minutes to make your escape.

Stress Factory

One of the best things about living in Somerset is its proximity to New Brunswick. In fact, it will only take you a few minutes to drive to a comedy show at the Stress Factory. Upcoming acts include D.L. Hughley, Bret Ernst, Damon Wayans, Jr., Jeff Dye, Jackie Fabulous and Vinnie Brand. Enjoy a hamburger or wrap while you watch the show, or stop by one of the many local restaurants before show time. George Street Ale House, Steakhouse 85, Blackthorn Restaurant and Irish Pub, and Harvest Moon Brewery and Café are located within a block of the Stress Factory.

Brook Arts Center

Do you enjoy live musical and dramatic performances? Brook Arts Center in Bound Brook offers your favorite groups and plays close to home. The schedule for February and March includes the plays Seussical the Musical and First Lady and performances by Human Wheels, Bark at the Moon, Head Motor, We May Be Right, Closet Carpenters and Kinderhook.

Buccleuch Park

New Brunswick’s Buccleuch Park on Easton Avenue is the perfect place to get a little exercise or de-stress after a long day at work. The 78-acre park includes a 1.5-mile-long fitness trail, tennis and basketball courts, and soccer, baseball, cricket and softball fields. After you finish your game or walk, take a tour of the rock and flower gardens or enjoy a picnic lunch in the pavilion. The park is also the site of the historic Buccleuch Mansion, a Georgian Mansion visited by George Washington. Tours of the mansion are offered on Sunday afternoons in June through October.
